National Carers Week 2023

Article by
This year, in Australia, we celebrate National Carers Week 15 – 21 October 2023. It is a week to recognise and celebrate our 2.65 million carers across Australia who provide care and support to a family member or friend.
About Carers and National Carers Week
Carers are people who provide unpaid care and support to family members and friends who have a disability, mental health condition, chronic condition, terminal illness, an alcohol or other drug issue or who are frail aged – anyone at any time can become a carer. Carers play a vital role in providing essential support and assistance to individuals who are unable to care for themselves due to illness, disability, or age, ensuring their well-being and quality of life. Their dedication and compassion often go unrecognized but are instrumental in maintaining the dignity and independence of those they care for.
Carers Week in Australia is an annual event dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the invaluable contributions of carers who provide unpaid care and support to family members or friends with disabilities, illnesses, or age-related needs. It serves as a platform to raise awareness about the challenges they face and promote greater support and recognition for their vital role in society.
National Carers Week is an initiative of Carers Australia, funded by the Australian Government Department of Social Services, and coordinated with the assistance and participation of the National Carer Network.
The theme for this year’s national campaign is ‘Millions of Reasons to Care‘ and Australians are encouraged to show their appreciation for carers and let them know why they care.
